October Favourites and Un-Favourites?

This will be my first monthly favourites. I watch enough youtube videos on the subject to know that it won't be my last. I decided to throw in somethings that I really disliked this month because I feel like it is always the negatives that stick in your mind far longer than the positives.

I suppose I will start out on the sour note. It is fresh in my mind and staring me in the face as I type so I might as well call it out. The first is NYX nail polish. The specific example I am looking at is in the color Jungle. The color is nice, I actually got it for my Halloween costume (I was a peacock and it is a very peacock color). I am not really one of those NYX pushers that so many gurus seem to be. I think they have some nice products but I'm not about to run out and purchase everything that looks good to me with no reason or research. Although when I picked up this polish that is exactly what I did. Went of brand reputation and shiny object. I'm actually slightly upset it says "made in the usa" on it. I feel Americans have enough problems with horrible products without needing to add more. Oh, you want to know reasons for my intense feelings towards this polish? Right, that. Evidence. Well the polish itself bubbles. and I do layers and sheer coats and everything you're supposed to do. I don't glob it on. It ended up with little dents in it even when I covered it with my miracle Sally Hansen Insta Dri Anti Chip Top Coat. It's a miracle worker but even that couldn't save it. So they looked strange. The glitter didn't distribute evenly at all. And it chips so bad! I was making my bed, that's right making my bed, and half my nail chipped off. I don't sleep on sand paper or burlap in case you were wondering and wanting to give the polish the benefit of the doubt. They are soft sheets and my nails are pretty strong, they don't really bend. That wasn't even the worst chipping. It was a day possibly two before about 5 of my fingers had no polish on them. And this isn't the cheapest polish. Barry M and Revlon, among others are far cheaper. Needless to say I will not be repurchasing NYX nail polish, ever. (Did I get a bad bottle or is this normal? Did I miss other NYX nail polish bashing that I should have known about before I decided to impulse buy?)

My other un-favourite (I feel very Mad Hatter saying it that way) of the month is Revlon Eyelash Glue. Poor decision on my part, I'm aware. I moved and cannot find my Duo anywhere. And when I went to get some I couldn't find any in Boots or Superdrug. I was out of luck. Why I went for Revlon before anything else I don't know. In my defense I didn't have that many options. I never thought I would say this but I miss CVS. Anyway, I used the eyelash glue for lashes and for my feathers I glued to my head (I was a peacock, remember.). My feathers were coming off within a couple hours along with my eyelashes, which wasn't really the look I was going for. I wasn't dancing insanely and it was that hot. So I was a little confused as to why it was so hard for the glue to work. But it didn't and I shouldn't have been surprised but somehow I was.

That's return to the positive. I'm sure I could hate on some other products but that really wouldn't be very fun to read.

First on my favorites list is my Naked Palette. I could not love the Naked Palette anymore if it was a new puppy. ALL the colors are incredible. It's not one of those palettes where you could use a couple colors, you will use them all and they are all really nice in terms of pigmentation, staying power, actual colors. I use it everyday. I'm going to have to pick up a second one if they keep it limited edition. I may pick up two while I'm in London, another for me and one for a friend for Christmas. If she's reading this she knows who she is, Merry Christmas. haha.

Second on my list, Skin Clearing Blemish Concealer. I love this stuff. It isn't a miracle. If you put it on you can't expect your spot to magically disappear over night. But it does reduce the spot, over time. It certainly doesn't make it worse, at all. My skin is kind of sensitive I would say and this stuff doesn't bother it at all. It's also provides nice coverage. I was very pleasantly surprised with this. I thought it was a gimmick and it turns out I was wrong.

I need to wrap this thing up. I just collected what I wanted to talk about and it's a pile. Literally.

Third on the list is my new favourite mascara, I have been using it a lot lately. I first got this mascara a couple months ago and I didn't really like it. I found out it's because it takes quite awhile to get used to it. It's L'Oreal Telescopic Explosion. It's amazing. It gets every single lash. The brush is kind of flimsy and it's super long. Those are my main complaints. Those two issues make it really not so easy to get the hang of but once you do you will be in love and not regret it. It makes me look like I have false lashes on when I put some eyeliner on with it. I like it a lot.

Number 4 is ELF Liquid Liner. I am AWFUL at liquid liner. The only liner I can do is with an angled brush and powder. But this liquid liner is so much easier to use than any others that I have tried. The brush isn't really a brush, that's the key feature. It's stiff, so it doesn't go everywhere and make flicks where there should be no flicking. I am practicing a lot and liking it.

As I have updated you all on, my skin has gotten far more oily here in England than it was in the states. Most likely because I was living up at 8,000 feet there and now I'm at sea level again. Never thought you'd hear anyone saying they missed a super dry environment, did you? I need to find a good astringent mainly, is what I've decided. But while I buy unnecessary things and put that on the back burner I have been relying on my Mac Prep and Prime Skin Refined Zone Treatment. After I wash my face I put this all over my face, as opposed to as directed (hence the zone in the title, apparently your whole face is not a zone, who knew). Not only does it make all of your pores disappear but there is no oil, your skin will be matte. If you have super insane oily skin as I do, it will make you believe in real miracles. Truth.

LAST but certainly not least. I have a lot of loans at this point. I am not made of money, I haven't found a rich boyfriend and I have not been able to find a money tree as of yet (still looking). So I have some Mac brushes I have had for years when my parents still bought me things. But when I need a new brush or decide I want a new brush I most likely don't need I can't afford Mac and most likely can't afford Sigma either. So last year I had ordered three brushes from ELF. One was an eyeshadow brush, flat top powder brush, and foundation brush. I have an issue with non blending eyeshadow brushes so I wasn't a huge fan of the c shaped eyeshadow brush but the powder brush was amazing. I have used the foundation brush and like it but you have to really clean it and re-fluff for it not to streak your foundation. So when I finally settled in a couple weeks ago and found I forgot/lost my powder brush I decided to place an order. I got the small kabuki brush, blush brush, complexion brush and of course a new powder brush. I love them. They are so soft and seem to shed less than my Mac brushes. I just really can't say enough about these brushes. Cheap and quality is kind of an amazing combo. I think if you get these you will not be disappointed. I haven't really ventured into anything other than face brushes. But maybe I will at some point, but again I have issues with eyeshadow brushes.

This post is entirely too long. I'm sorry for the book. I do so much reading to study on a daily basis that I understand the lack of compulsion to read the longest blog post ever. But if you made it this far congratulations. If I can review anything further or answer questions let me know. And let me know if you want to keep seeing my favorites. Or if you want Halloween pictures and costume explanation.

Also I'm trying to stay on top of blogging but on top of the dissertation and learning dead languages etc, it's not as easy as I thought it could be.

Makeup Playing, Shopping My Stash, Face of the Day

I'm not sure which lighting is better so I did both. You can judge.

Eyes:
Naked Palette (Sin and Sidecar) + Bare Study Paint Pot
A little 24/7 liner in whatever they call the brown color
L'Oreal Telescopic Explosion (which is hard to use so I'm practicing)

Cheeks:
Mac Hang Loose

Lips:
Natural Nymph (ELF)
Revlon Colorburst LS Lilac
A tiny Turkish Delight (Nars)

I've been playing with makeup a lot lately. Yesterday's creation I would never wear outside. Well maybe at night in a dark smokey club. Let me know if I need to be less creative or institutionalized. I think it came out nice.

Tiny Lush Haul and Review

I stopped into Lush thinking of buying Angels on Bare Skin. I ended up buying Dark Angels and Snow Fairy Lip Tint. I asked the woman at Lush about the best option for very oily skin and she said that Dark Angels was supposed to be the best cleanser. So obviously because I'm so impulsive and sick of my skin I bought it. I was a little afraid to use it because it looks exactly like moist charcoal and the thought of it turning my face grey or black was a little scary (it didn't) I really like it. It leaves my skin feeling really soft and clean. But it really does nothing to stop the oil. I get oily and have to use my oil absorbing sheets within a couple hours. I seriously have no idea how to curb this. An astringent maybe? I have pretty oily skin to start with but I recently moved to England and for some reason my oily skin turned into mega oily skin over night. It's really bad. I even had to stop using my oil free for oily skin moisturizer.

I also bought Snow Fairy Lip Tint on impulse. It makes my lips so smooth and moisturizers amazingly. The only problem is I don't really like the color. I figured the color pay off wouldn't be that great and it turns out I was very wrong. It's cotton candy pink. Not even the pretty baby pink you would imagine. So I wear it at night while I study but not out and about. But it has definitely made my lips a lot better. I tend to really like smells in the store and then I get it home to wear it and they bother me. I guess I'm really smell sensitive. So that's a bit of an issue for me but it works so well I'm trying to overlook it. They have more than just Snow Fairy scent and this color so maybe I will check out some of the others.

Have you bought either of these? Thoughts? And any oily skin suggestions would be great.

"A woman who doesn't wear perfume has no future." - Coco Chanel

I like this quote from Coco Chanel. (Btw if you haven't seen Coco Avant Chanel you really should, it's quite a film) I feel like perfume is possibly more expressive of a woman's personality then makeup or clothing. I have many more scent memories than I do any other. I can remember exactly what my mom smelled like every special occasion. (Paul Sebastian's Design, if anyone was wondering) I can still remember my Aunt's perfume, which is special because she recently passed away. I just feel like perfume is a way to present your age, your personality, or your desires.

I tend not to be very exploratory when it comes to perfumes and I never buy them sight unseen. My signature scent for a few years has been Vera Wang (the original). (Before that it was Escada and even before that it was Lucky Brand) I have really liked it and I felt it was pretty appropriate for every season. (although maybe a little heavy for the summer) I think I either had my last bottle for too long or I shouldn't have stored it where I did but it sort of went sour and I was in the market for something new.

I had picked up the two scents I previously blogged about. (I don't have the link off hand but it's under my posts) And I was quite happy about them and a little leery of the cologne. Nonetheless I moved to England about a week ago and decided that I needed the Jennifer Aniston perfume only sold at Harrod's in the UK. I am not living in London so sight unseen I ordered it. (Too much youtube and hype mongering for me, haha.)

I was so excited when it came and tore it opened and sprayed my arm. My first thought was, hmm this could be something my mom would wear. That's not necessarily my preference when it comes to perfume. As wonderful as my mom is and as similar as we are she's still 30 or so years older than me. Now smelling like someone in their 30s I could do. (I'm 22) But smelling like someone in their 50s, not so much. I was a little shocked that everyone kept saying it was scented so fresh and was supposed to be like warm sun and pacific breezes. Not so much. It's a little musky, which is okay but there is something aging about it. I understand Jen is 40 and if it's something she basically designed for herself that makes sense, but because she's just so youthful I thought she smell different. I feel like maybe this doesn't fit her personality. Although I don't know her personally so maybe it does.

Am I making too much out of nothing? Should I give this to my mom before she leaves from her vacation to go back to the states? I kinda of like the smell but I'm just not sure it suits me. Do I suck it up and layer it? What are your thoughts on the topic? You can generalize if you like.

Girly Survey

1. Is it cute when guys kiss you on your forehead?
Depends on the situation, I guess. It kinda reminds me of my dad though, which isn't something I want to be reminded of in a guy I'm into.

2. A big poofy dress or a short party dress?
I'm more of the big poofy dress kinda person I think. I'm not really fond of my legs so I like them to be mostly covered.

3. What would you do if you received a long love letter?
I think it would be really corny. I love letters from my friends and grandma but not guys. I'm not really lovey dovey< I'd probably laugh and maybe break up with them. If you're going to write me a love letter, we don't go together.

4. Group dates or single dates?
Group dates are fun, it just depends on the group and the person. I might prefer to have group dates to do some things but single dates to do others.

5. Do you hate it when guys act different around their friends?

6. Are diamonds a girl's best friend?
Meh. Clothes are a girls best friend. Dogs are a girls best friend. Horses are a girls best friend. I like shiny objects but I'm okay with the fake stuff. I would never feel truly comfortable wearing fancy stuff, I have been known to lose stuff.

Up, second day hair.

8. Do you straighten your hair?
My hair is super straight so only if I sleep on it wrong. And sometimes my bangs because they can get funky looking.

Probably Glamour. I want to say something classy like Vogue or Elle but everything is so expensive that is seems silly to even read it.

10. What's your favorite mascara?
I really like Lumene Blueberry Curl mascara but one of my tried and true favorites is Prestige My Biggest Lashes.

11. Do you get your nails done?

Review Revlon Grow Luscious by Fabulash

I wanted to like this. I'm going to use it because, to be honest, I had to throw out my other waterproof mascaras because they went bad. The first thing I noticed about this was the brush looks a lot like the Prestige My Biggest Lashed brush. I love My Biggest Lashes so I was excited to try this. I set my hopes a little too high.

When I first used it, on first swipe it started flaking off the brush and my lashes. Right out of the bottle. Bad sign. Also, as you can see in the pictures, it clumps pretty bad. The picture is only two coats (in Luuux link). If you touch your lashes at all during the day it will flake all over your face. I do like that there isn't as much lash fall out when you go to remove it. I find that water proof mascara is really hard on your lashes in terms of removing your lashes along with your mascara when you go to take it off.

As far as lash growth goes, I think it doesn't dry out your lashes like many mascaras do but I don't think this one does. I'm not sure it grows your lashes like it says it does but maybe if I give it more time...

Looking for inspiration or entertainment: My Top 6 favorite Youtube Beauty Gurus

I love the youtube beauty guru. I thought I would give you guys my top 6 for inspiration. I have subscriptions to others but these are some of my favorites who maybe not everyone has heard of. Hopefully you are as inspired and entertained by them as I am.

http://www.youtube.com/user/lollipop26

Laura was, like most people who watch youtube beauty videos, my first beauty subscription. I love her hauls, I love her style, I love her makeup. Her personality is witty and kind. I always watch her videos first when I pull up my subscriptions. I could listen to her talk for hours.

http://www.youtube.com/user/deanne5253

Deanne is hilarious and really good at these videos. She has good taste and she's really good at makeup. She also is very mindful of cost and tends to review things that won't cost you an arm and a leg. I love her.

http://www.youtube.com/user/juicytuesday

Theresa is really entertaining. She does lots of tutorials which I love, but nothing too complicated that you couldn't actually do it. She's really sarcastic and honest. Her honesty keeps me coming back. If she hates something she's going to tell you. She's not out there to use her channel to sell you things.

http://www.youtube.com/user/kandeejohnson

Kandee is so inspirational. Not only is she a great makeup artist with awesome tips but she is kind. She seeks to build her subscribers up and truly let them into her heart. Her blog continuously inspires me to be positive and try harder. Her sister is also super sweet and inspiring (http://www.youtube.com/user/tiffanycmyers) they look so much alike.

http://www.youtube.com/user/selinajelibaby

Selina is a college student who has a good eye for makeup. She does great reviews. Almost everything she talks about I end up wanting to buy. She's really sweet and open. She always responds to questions. I can totally relate to her and she has my skin tone which helps with her makeup reviews.

http://www.youtube.com/user/BelleDuJourNYC

Dara is so New York but also down to earth and honest. She reviews things that are high end but coupled with things you could actually afford. When she does reviews she actually puts the makeup on so you can see it, which really helps when your debating whether you want it. She's funny and never reviews something she wouldn't buy herself. Her tutorials are simple to execute so you can actually mirror them for yourself.

Review L'Oreal HIP Jelly Balm

I had been hearing a lot about L'Oreal HIP Jelly Balm among some of the beauty gurus. They were saying that it is a much cheaper dupe of Mac's tinted lip moisturizers. I haven't tried Mac's tinted lip moisturizers but I certainly wanted to. I don't have a Mac near me and considering the Jelly Balm's were much cheaper I decided to go for it.

I picked them up at my local Rite Aid for 9 dollars (which isn't super cheap in terms of drugstores) in number 320 Delectable and number 120 Plush. Plush is a true barbie pink. Delectable is a pinky deep red. The smell really good, I'm not sure how to describe the smell besides yummy. They taste pretty good too (not suggesting you eat them but you know how sometimes you end up ingesting them).

They are really sheer but that's the point of them. If you are thinking that you are going to get that color, you just aren't. They are really quite buildable. You aren't going to get the exact color you see in the jar but you can build it up to a pretty color. They are really moisturizing, I don't find myself reaching for my tried and true Nivea chapsticks that I love. These are pretty much my new favorite.

I'm not a huge lipstick so these are perfect for me. I'm not a huge fan of my natural lip color so these are nice to provide a little color and a lot of moisture. They are also pretty glossy but not at all sticky, which is great.

I heard somewhere they were discontinuing these. Is that true? Because if so I need to stock up. I believe there are five colors and maybe I should go back and get them. The supply at my Rite Aid was slim and at CVS it was nonexistent. How do you guys like these?

*In link below - Pictures delectable is on the left or the first one and plush is on the right of the second one. Sorry for the lack of cropping, it wouldn't let me upload the cropped versions*

What are your thoughts on women who wear cologne?

I got two different perfume samples recently. One every girl is most likely familiar with, Viva La Juicy by Juicy Couture. The other was a cologne from Desert Scents called Tumbleweed and Sage. Normally when I run into a cologne I love, I would buy it for my boyfriend so I could smell it all the time. But alas, I just broke up with my boyfriend of 2 and half years a couple months ago so therefore I had no way to snuggle up to that wonderful smell. I turned to my mother and her friend and asked if maybe I could wear it. I had read a study somewhere that said men feel more comfortable and attracted to women who wear male scents because of the subconscious idea that they are just with their guy friends. I have no idea where I read that but my mom and her friend said it smelled good and I could pull it off. My mom also told me that she used to wear a men's cologne many years ago that she liked. After I bought it I texted a friend who told me that she had read that study but she thought it had said slightly male scented perfumes. So is it okay for me to wear it? It smells really traditional. Just exactly what you think of when you think of cologne. Anyone else into men's cologne? I would love the input. I wore it yesterday but yesterday was a tough day and no one was going to comment on it. I do love Viva La Juicy and I plan on getting the full size this week sometime. It's funny because I think they are the polar opposite scents I think.

Mascara Review - Lumene Blueberry Curl Mascara

I want to start with a total product rave. I was ordering some things from Target online when I came across this recommendation. Target knows I spend too much money on makeup which is slightly disconcerting. The mascara that I impulse purchased was Lumene's Blueberry Curl Mascara in Rich Black. I decided I loved it at first use. The brush looks a lot like the brush on the CoverGirl Lash Blast Length brush. It's one of the plastic wands which I like quite a bit but I have one issue with. They hurt my eyes, when you get down on the base of your lashes and your swiping the wand through it irritates that skin there for me. I have the same issue with Covergirl and Max Factor. I think it's just my eyes. I little pathetic. Anyway, I love this mascara. I think it gives great length and really nice volume. It doesn't clump. I normally like my mascara a little dry but this one is pretty wet but not clumpy or goopy wet. It isn't flakey either, which is great. In all those categories it lives up to its claim. They make another claim which goes a little something like this "nourishes your lashes to keep them strong and healthy." It says so on the tube. I haven't really noticed that because I have been using the Loreal Lash Serum so my lashes say pretty much the same day in and day out. But I don't notice very much fall out when I take it off (with Mac Cleanse Off Oils). So maybe there is something to that whole nourishing claim. I am in love. I would like to say it's my holy grail but I love experimenting with mascara too much to commit. Oh, and did I mention it was only 9.99$? Amazing. For pictures click the link below.

Haul + Sad News

So I just got off the phone with my Dad and I didn't get into one of the schools I applied to. I know I should hold my up and not get discouraged but I'm not as strong as I would like to be and I'm sad. Terrified to apply to more in case they all hate me too. It sucks. Normally I am pretty upbeat and witty as I write these but this puts a big damper on my big haul I am about to review for you.

I'll go with the Mac stuff first. I went to the free standing store first but they did not have Gaga so I went to the Macy's counter next. The people at the Macy's counter I go to are so much nicer anyway. But not as knowledgeable as I wish they were to be honest.

A) Viva Glam Gaga! - Oh man do I love this lipstick. I have no idea why. I blame the ladies on Makeup Alley for this purchase. Everyone was going crazy over this stuff. The new Viva Glam Cyndi and Gaga. So Gaga is this really pinky pink color that is just so pink. You can never have too much pink as far as I am concerned. It's a lustre so it goes on really smooth and isn't very matte so it has a nice feel on your lips. A lot of people question it's everyday wearability and I feel like this is just not a serious concern. I suppose it might be if you work in a serious office setting. You just have to be confident and go for it. If you feel happy and good in it then people won't think you're silly for wearing baby pink lipstick. It's so pretty. Here is the watch on Karla Sugar's site, but seriously does not do the color justice. If you are cool toned or just love pink, buy it you will not be sorry. http://karlasugar.net/2010/02/viva-glam-cyndi-and-gaga/

B) Eyeshadow in All That Glitters - This is a super popular color that everyone raves about. I went and I swatched it and talked to the sales associate and decided it would most likely be a good choice for me. The Mac site describes the color as Beige w/gold pearl (Veluxe Pearl). I would say that it is almost peachy but not a pink peachy more beige-y. I really do like it. It goes well with my fair skin tone. It blends well and the pigmentation is really good. This eyeshadow really restores my faith in Mac eyeshadow follow my tragic run in with Honesty. Awful, you look at Honesty and think pretty color nice neutral brown color, I must have it and you get it home and the pigmentation is horrible and the color doesn't even come out. So thank you to All That Glitters for restoring my faith in Mac.

Went to Sephora which originally started this shopping spree. My bf gave me a gift card for Valentine's Day and I went pretty much knowing that I was going to buy more than what the gift card amount was for. So I splurged on some must have raved about Nars products.

A) NARS Turkish Delight Lipgloss - I am pretty sure this is Nars' best seller right here. The amount of people who just rave about this lipgloss are pretty much everywhere. Also a few gurus adore this as well so I had to see it and once I tried it on at Sephora I knew it had to be mine. I really like it. Of course it's sticky, it's lipgloss how could it not be? But it's not sticky and thick and gross like some lipgloss. It's smooth and has a really muted color that is pink but not like whoa pink. I really like it. I need to have more faith in other people's reviews of things, this proved to me that things tend to be well loved and popular for a reason.

B) NARS Duo Blush Bronzer Orgasm and Laguna - Taking my lesson from above I know that people love Orgasm blush and Laguna bronzer so I saw this to be the best of both worlds. I swatched it and thought okay, it's nice. I took a leap of faith and brought it home with me. I have used it twice since then and I do like it. The blush is really not as subtle as I would like it to be. But it is a beautiful color. I have to be a little bolder to wear it than I normally am but hey I am working on being bold for Gaga so I might as well, right? Laguna bronzer looked dark to me, I am terrified of bronzer, like terrified. I do not want to look like a crazy person. I already look like a crazy person, I don't need to give more evidence of that. But it doesn't apply as dark as it looks and it blends out really well. I am actually really happy with it. I am still kind of leery of really putting it on there, but I'm playing with it. I glad it blends so well, and for pale me it looks pretty god, it's not a huge color shock.

So I know I told you guys that I made a purchase for myself for Valentine's day off Coastal Scents website. 10 days later I actually got it. It was long and painful. Then two days before it came I want shopping crazy so I guess that held me off of being really upset over it. Normally everyone is so thrilled over their really quick shipping, and granted there was a snowstorm to I should be gentle, but that was a long time. It seemed very unnecessary to me.

A) Coastal Scents Camo Quad Color Corrector - I was scared to get this, as I already expressed before. I was hoping to be pleasantly surprised. So far I really haven't been. I think that may be just because I haven't really figured out how to correctly use it yet. I mainly got for the huge gross purple circles under my eyes and the many blemishes that seem to be having a bigger and bigger party on my face as of late. (I may need to invest in some Mederma at some point). Here is the link because it will do a far better job explaining it than I will. http://www.coastalscents.com/cfwebstore/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_id=140
Basically it's a few different cream colors. The different colors fix different problem colors your skin displays. I'm actually liking it better than just plain concealer so that says something. But as I get better with it I think I will like it more. I will let you know how that develops.

B) 28 Piece Eyeshadow Neutral Palette - I'm disappointed with this one. I didn't want to be. Everyone was thrilled with pigmentation and colors etc. I don't think it is bad at all. I think I just had really high expectations after all the reviews I watched and I really shouldn't have had them. The pigmentation is spectacular, it's definitely not as good as All That Glitters. The colors are nice. We'll see how it plays out. I haven't had enough time to play with them yet I don't think. But there is a lot of variety in them and some of the colors are a little more pigmented than the others. We'll see how it goes, I will keep you updated.

I definitely realize that pretty much none of this was on my list of things that I wanted to buy. I can't decide whether I want to get nail polish online or walk into a salon around here and get it. It's like the difference in cash versus credit. I'm going back and forth. Although I feel like I need to change colors and I don't really have to options right now to do it, which is sad. That and I would love the new OPI Mad as a Hatter from Alice and Wonderland. We'll see. I hopefully won't be buying very much as of late besides that but will keep my adoring fans (haha) updated.

Hope everyone had a nice Valentine's Day! Blog to you soon.

SNOWMG!

I am here reporting to you from the arctic tundra that is Washington DC. This is ridiculous we just made history as the worst and snowiest winter DC has ever had. Beating the 1800s storm. It's horrible here. I went outside Monday night to the bar with the girls, and then Tuesday to go to the grocery store and CVS but since Thursday night I have pretty much been cooped up inside. You would think I would be blogging more, or actually doing school work more but I haven't been. My friend was right when she said the less you have to do the less you want to do. Not that I have little to do but with no classes and leaving the apartment it feels like nothing.

While I have been cooped up I have been avidly watching my youtube favorites and stalking the MUA site pretty religiously. I finally decided that I would buy myself a valentine's day present. Coastal Scents 28 Neutral Palette and Color Corrector Quad. So besides the fact that it looks crazy, I was resistant to buy this color corrector based on youtube reviews by two people that I now feel after a lot of blog reading etc are sort of paid for their opinions. I just felt like maybe their rave reviews couldn't be trusted, which is maybe untrue but so many people diss them. Some people I watch I know are paid, but I think they are honest people. Just by watching them constantly etc I feel like the will be honest with you. But some people I just can't read, and with so many haters it almost feels like maybe where there is smoke there is fire. But despite all that I am really excited. I have watched a lot of people review the Coastal Scents palettes and rave about them. Even with everyone astonished at super fast delivery time I know I won't really get them in time for Valentine's day but whatever still counts as a present. Happy Valentine's Day to me.

I have been stalking the ELF site for some time now. Even searching Target which they say they have Elf, they just aren't there. It's so cheap and people really love there stuff I am jonesing for some. I'm under strict orders in this economy to not be spending a ton of money. I haven't really been doing a good job at that. I am trying. The color corrector was necessary though, my eyes have some serious purple bags that Mac Studio Finish just can't cover even with foundation and powder, and my blemishes are multiplying. And just throwing it out there, I don't have gel eyeliner, a foundation brush or flat stipler type powder brush. These may not be necessary for survival but you know. More pertinent that like, more clothes or foundation or mascara.

I am on the fence. Because I do really need a new camera battery charger. I would really like the two OPI colors, Mod About You and Give Me the Moon. I should get myself some gel socks for my heels. I could cut back on the food situation, or even not drink like juice and stuff and only drink water. Water is so good for you and highly underrated. I haven't been to Starbucks in awhile. I have been really good. I used my gift card at the grocery store, I just got prescriptions and cat food at CVS. I really think I should be able to get ELF, OPI and socks, and Camera Charger. 22, 22, 42? Those numbers are weird. Strange they are all around that much. But I will have more transcripts to send to schools. Maybe I should take a vote? What do you think should be bought and what do you think shouldn't be bought? I will leave you with that tid bit. I think I am going to go watch Bride Wars now, my friend lent it to me.

PS: If anyone out there is looking for good movie suggestions, the snow storm has made me quite and expert.

Two Thumbs Up: Sunshine Cleaning and Paris, je t'aime - Also if you have not seen Up you really have to.

Revisiting old friends and cravings

Do you ever revisit something old in your closet? I have these boots I got years ago from Blowfish that are like flannel ankle boots. When I got them I wasn't thrilled with them. I wore them maybe twice, thought about giving them to a friend. But just put them in a drawer. A couple days ago I saw a girl in one of my lectures wearing them. I pulled them back out and I have worn them twice since then. They aren't as warm as my Uggs but the snow is melting and before we get pelted with 2 more feet on Friday I decided I would get some use out of them. I'm quite enjoying them now.

I went and saw Avatar last night. I totally suggest going to see it in 3d if you haven't. It wasn't overly amazing but worth seeing. It's a story line I have seen a million times but in a crazy way image wise.

I started to do my eyebrows recently which is a totally different concept for me. Nothing crazy just filling them in. Sense my hair is so much darker now it works out I think. Hopefully I will get more adventurous.

So I know I have raved about Loreal Perfect 10 dye. But I think they have recently changed their formulation and I have been taking some Benedryl because my scalp itches so bad. It sucks. I know you are supposed to do a spot test but I thought it would be the same as I have used a million times. So I'm itching like crazy. I have to check on that but they must have changed it. I'll get back to you on that.

I have so much on my list for new makeup that I want. I think on the top may be splurging on Chanel Pro Luminere Foundation. I need to get my hands on some OPI nail polishes, currently craving; Mod about you, Got a date to knight, Kyoto pearl, Give me the moon. Anyone in the US know how to get their hands on OPI. Can I just walk into a salon and ask to buy them? I'm confused. I don't have an Ulta near me, I heard you could get them there. And Sephora has them make their own colors so. Besides ebay, any recommendations? My CVS doesn't sell them, but I think the one a little further away may be selling them. I have a very long list but those are like the things that I am really really wanting.

We are going to get pretty snowed in this weekend so you may be hearing from me much more often.

It's one of those days where you just need a treat

I know it has been awhile since I last wrote. I've been a little busy. I am having my bathroom worked on for the second time in matter of a few months. Hopefully it will be done on Saturday. I have also been turning in an application for graduate school which is stressful. Only more to come on the application front. 3 more actually. Lately I have been lighting up my credit card for many unfun things like transcripts and application fees. Today in CVS I decided I needed a treat that didn't involve food so I opted to buy the mascara I have wanted to try for some time now. It's the one with that little strange ball. Loreal Telescopic Explosion in Black rather than Blackest Black. I never can really tell the difference between Black and like Blackout or Extreme Black or Blackest Black, I don't really see the difference but maybe I would if I had lighter eyelashes or hair. I'm actually excited to try my new purchase. I have so much mascara at the point it's really crazy. But after seeing a few of the Gurus on youtube go through their make up collections I feel less bad about it. One that I revisited today was my former favorite Estee Lauder MagnaScopic mascara which you can still get I think it's like 20 dollars or so. It's a pretty good mascara, I like it better than some. Like Mary Kay's mascara which is awful, Mary Kay is just not good from what I have tried. I don't have sensitive skin but their make up gives me a rash and their sales people are sooooo pushy. Not my scene.

I am pretty bummed today. I snapped my sunglasses in my bag while I was digging for me keys. They were ones I got online that I wasn't thrilled with but still. I hate losing a pair. But that is exactly why I can't buy nice ones. I don't really know why else I am bummed today but it's just one of those days I guess.

Update on the dry shampoo situation. I don't like it. The Ferakki Dry Shampoo is what I have been using and it works a little bit but it should be much better. I want to try a spray, aerosol preferably even though I know it's worse for the environment, I want to try the one that allthatglitters21 reviews in one of her videos that I saw. I have to go back to the video to see what it is but it's from Sephora but it just wasn't at the Sephora I went to . But you have already heard this story. So I would not recommend purchasing this product at all.

I have to go do some reading before my class tonight but I promise I will have some updates and reviews in the next few days.

Do you ever feel guilty for shopping?

I am the first one to admit that I have a shopping problem. I definitely think I need to go find a shopaholics anonimous meeting. Although I was discussing it with my boyfriend and he said that there is no way you can just not go shopping. Which is true. But if you have ever seen Confessions of a Shopaholic that is how I feel when I shop. I do not, NOT, spend that much money nor am I in that much debt (everyone has some debt).

"You know that thing when you see someone cute and he smiles and your heart kind of goes like warm butter sliding down hot toast? Well that's what it's like when I see a store. Only it's better."

"When I shop, the world gets better, and the world is better, but then it's not, and I need to do it again."

"A man will never love you or treat you as well as a store. If a man doesn't fit, you can't exchange him seven days later for a gorgeous cashmere sweater. And a store always smells good. A store can awaken a lust for things you never even knew you needed. And when your fingers first grasp those shiny, new bags... oh yes... oh yes."

That being said I recently went shopping. What a shocker! I "needed" some things. I guess no one ever needs makeup but if you could these were essentials that I needed. I first went to Sephora, I got Urban Decay's Eye Primer Potion that I had been wanting/needing to try, also I got Ferraki Dry Shampoo that I had wanted to try. Well I wanted to try the dry shampoo that allthatglitters21 showed in one of her videos but that particular Sephora didn't carry it and the woman I talked to had tried them all and liked this one. I used the primer and I can't say that I saw a huge difference in my makeup but maybe it was that I wasn't thrilled with how my makeup turned out that day. The dry shampoo I also was not stunned with, I like the way I could style my hair after I used it, but my hair does get maybe too oily for dry shampoo. Is that possible? I would probably try the spray next and see which one I liked better. I also got one of the Sephora brand eyelash curler because I lost mine at some point. But I used it and I remembered why I hadn't really gotten one sooner. They tend to like smash my lashes together so I don't have that same spread and volume.

I then went to Mac, I was just going to look but that never goes well, that looking thing. I got a thing of Studio Finish Concealer which I have had for years and a really really like. I also got a lipstick which was Viva Glam # 5 I believe. I love it. It's pretty neutral and it looks nice and natural on me. I was going to get Creme de Nude but it just washed me out.

Oh I also have to issue a retraction from my previous henous post about Sally Hansen. My bad. I picked up the wrong bottle. Nail Laquer and Salon Laquer are two different things. The Salon stuff is amazing and the Nail Laquer is HORRIBLE! Do not purchase! Purchase the Salon stuff, you'll love it. The nail lacquer is still on my nails, I like the color is just looks bubbly and gross close up. My friend was like nice nails then I actually showed them to her close up and she was like oh yeah never mind. So that is my two cents.

Until next time, Go shop! If not for yourself, for me.

Update on Nail Polish and everything else

I was so thrilled with the new salon laquer line from Sally Hansen that I bought a bottle in Made You Blush. It doesn't have the same brush or consistency. What? The brush is like impossible and does not spread evenly. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm really disappointed.

In other news I am really craving a trip to Mac. It's just a few blocks away but I really do not need to be buying more makeup. Although comparatively speaking I do not have that much makeup. (Have you seen lollipop26's makeup tour - makes me weak at the knees)

I am in the market for a good concealer and eye primer. If you have any ideas definitely let me know. I was thinking maybe Urban Decay Eye Primer Potion. But I have never used a concealer. Overall I have pretty good skin. It's not perfect and glowy and clear but it doesn't need a ton of face makeup. But I have horrible dark bags under my eyes almost always and concealer that makes them disappear would be fabulous. I also have various areas that pop up with blemishes that would be wonderful to be able to touch up.

Classes started back for me today. I'm not taking anything I am really interested in this semester. I am just finishing up my undergrad. I really never thought it would go that fast. But it did. Now I have so much to get done in such a short time it's scary.

I will keep you updated on my process. I'll let you know how the paint drys on this horrible nail situation. Also on new shopping adventures that I will most likely be making. Trying to keep me away from shopping is impossible.

PS: Just got back from Cancun and it was cold and cloudy. It was upsetting but the Westin Lagunamar was fantastic and spending time with my best friend and my parents was great. I drank too much and got sunburnt - so all and all the full Cancun experience.
